BRINGING S/N TO EL SALVADOR
The Foundation for Cultural Exchange, a Grand Junction-Colorado based nonprofit that for 13 years has partnered with a rural El Salvadoran community on education & cultural exchange programs announced plans for a 1st ever S/N campaign in May 2018 to improve local animal & human health, reduce trauma, encourage compassion & transform local veterinarians into experts in a region that often lacks S/N protocols. http://www.gjsentinel.com/news/articles/group-helps-animals-in-el-salvador

A TWIST ON S/N LICENSE PLATES
In many states, special license plates fund some portion of S/N costs. Florida established such a plate in 2004. Soon after, the Florida Animal Control Agency, the Florida Veterinary Medical Association & the Humane Society of the United States banded together to form Florida Animal Friends (FAF.) Their goal: “To help save the lives of countless unwanted cats & dogs by supporting organizations that offer free or low-cost S/N services across the state of Florida.” The main source of funding for FAF is the sale of the specialty license plate and private & charitable donations. Annually, FAFs’ Board reviews grant applications from non-profit & municipal agencies across Florida. These agencies have programs in place to conduct S/N surgeries. FAF helps to fund up to $25,000/yr per organization. In the 10-year history, over $5,000,000 has been given to the organizations selected.
