W. VA FUNDS S/N WITH PET FOOD FEE
They join Maryland & Maine now using a surcharge on the annual registration fee, per brand, on all companies selling pet food in their State for a reliable & adequate funding source for their low cost S/N program. Read the fascinating & well researched 10 pg report on why this method beats all the others (tax check off, license plates, rabies shot surcharge, etc.) that are unreliable, or unpopular & never generate enough $: http://www.wvvaw.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/WV-Spay-Neuter-Special-Report-2017.pdf

GIANT S/N EFFORT IN SOUTH DALLAS
March 2017-A public-private effort has been formed to curb the pet population crisis in So.Dallas where loose dogs have roamed the streets for decades. The Rees-Jones Foundation, the W.W. Caruth Foundation & the Dallas Foundation have donated $13.5 million to a $24 million S/N project. Dallas Animal Services will provide data & support. A private firm, Resource-ful Elephant Group, will run the massive S/N campaign. The goal is daunting: Perform 46,000 FREE surgeries/yr for the next 3 years in areas that don't even have enough animal clinics nearby to make it seem feasible.Veterinarians on tap w/ the SPCA of Texas, the S/N Network & Operation Kindness will rely heavily on mobile clinics. Roughly 15 % of dogs in So. Dallas are “fixed”, vs 80% in No.Dallas. https://www.dallasnews.com/opinion/commentary/2017/03/31/will-massive-spay-neuter-program-fix-dallas-dog-problem

FREE S/N FOR ANY COLORADO CAT!
DENVER-Mar.2017-http://www.ddfl.org/catclinic/ The Dumb Friends League has opened a new S/N clinic for cats as part of their ongoing efforts to reduce the # of cats on the streets & in shelters. The Dumb Friends League Solutions Cat S/N Clinic offers fully subsidized (no-cost) S/N surgeries for all Colorado cats, including owned cats, feral cats, TNR cats & community cats (tame or feral free-roaming.) Anyone can bring a cat to the clinic for S/N surgery, regardless of income. The new facility & S/N program are being funded for 3 yrs by grants from the Animal Assistance Foundation, PetSmart Charities®, ASPCA, & Dumb Friends. The Dumb Friends League does about 10,000 cat S/N’s/yr at its shelters & mobile clinics. It hopes the new clinic will double that. The Colorado VMA had surveyed its membership to guage the level of support for a fully subsidized, no-barrier S/N clinic. The survey revealed strong support for a cat-only S/N clinic. So, the CVMA Executive Board & leader-ship voted to fully support the clinic. http://kdvr.com/2017/03/09/new-clinic-in-denver-offers-free-spayneuter-surgery-for-all-cats/
