NY’S TNR FUNDING BILL VETOED
Gov. Cuomo vetoed A2778 which would have let up to 20% of NY’s Animal Pop. Control Fund go for TNR. He cited concern re diversion of APC $ from S/N, violations of trapped animal handling laws, no guarantee of success, & neg. impact on wildlife. TNR advocates want NY to devote more $ to TNR, to help both cats & birds.
PET SAVERS LAUNCHES ‘TNR WORKS’!
to educate towns in Gloucester County NJ re TNR. Goal is to form “TNR Works” teams , with local volunteers helping to do TNR work, to share TNR facts with local leaders & to drive down the high euthanasia rate in the County. CHANGES @ PETSMART CHARITIES
Incorporated in 1994 as an independent 501(c)(3), PetSmart Charities (PSC) has reportedly distributed more than $165 million raised from customers to animal welfare groups. At peak, in 2014, PSC helped facilitate about 470,000 dog & cat adoptions, & about 285,000 S/N surgeries, while making about $34 million a year in grants to about 2,800 other animal charities. As part of a restructuring, PSC laid off its entire staff of 37 on Nov 4, including cat program mgr. Bryan Kortis, who earlier founded Neighborhood Cats. The 37 laid off will get a chance to apply for 34 new jobs. TNR WEBINAR FOR VET STUDENTS
In October, Alley Cat Allies (ACA) hosted a webinar for 54 students of Grenada’s St. George’s Univ & the Univ.’s TNR group, the Feral Cat Project. FCP manages a colony on campus & holds TNR clinics to teach veterinary students best care practices, introducing new members to TNR & the crucial role veterinarians have in the process. ACA’s Veterinary Awareness Campaign seeks to increase info. available in the veterinary community re TNR & Community Cats.

Ramapo Bergen Animal Refuge, Oakland is funding free S/N (non surgical for males, surgical for females) to slow growth in pit bulls in Paterson, where 100s of pits R rescued /yr.
