CONGRATS TO PFA ON 30 YRS OF S/N!
In 1985 People for Animals opened their doors in a little house in Hillside, NJ. On that 1st day, their veterinarian performed 6 surgeries. Now, in 2 surgical facilities, & a staff of over 12 veterinarians, PFA S/N’s 80-130 animals/day.
“FERAL FIXATHON”
Oregon’s SNYP “Saving Lives Through Prevention” Nov 2014 event resulted in 93 S/N’s in one day. It took 7 veterinarians & 10 Vet Techs from 5 hospitals & 28 lay volunteers. Each of those Veterinarians will be getting a letter from Lucky Star, hoping they will join our roster!
A FRONT ROW SEAT FOR TNR
South Orange NJ video tapes Town Council meetings, so we have a front row seat for a “10min” April 2015 talk on why TNR has been adopted by so many towns, by Michelle Lerner, attorney & policy specialist with the Animal Protection League of NJ, where she provides technical support to municipalities re TNR issues. The talk IS worth the slight “wait” for it to “get going”, regardless of whether you are pro or anti TNR. MORE HUMAN CANCER RESEARCH & S/N
In April, The Michelson Prize & Grants in Reproductive Biology announced a new research project in the search for a nonsurgical sterilant for cats & dogs. P. Donahoe, MD, and D. Pepin, PhD, both of the Simches Research Center at Massachusetts General Hospital,(MGH),received a 3yr $605,366 grant: “Single treatment with AAV9 Mullerian Inhibiting Substance (MIS) as an ideal permanent contraceptive.” Dr. Donahoe, Director of Pediatric Surgical Research at MGH, is a pioneer researcher of MIS, a recombinant reproductive hormone. “SPAY UP ALL NIGHT!”
This World Spay Day, Arizona Humane Society (AHS) azhumane.org wanted to double their impact & their March 5th event did! 81 pets had free S/N’s & 101 vouchers were given out in 24 hours. AHS vets started early doing surgeries at 6 a.m. at one clinic & then burned the midnight oil late into the evening at another. The fun title of their event caught our eye!
