Our Lucky Stars
We currently have 9 member veterinarians in private practice and 1 spay neuter clinic participating, representing 9 hospitals in 9 NJ towns.
Together these professionals have generously pledged 226 absolutely free spay neuter surgeries and other services for needy animals in 2009:

Lucky Star shines on a ‘little’ dog
An Oct email from Dr. Maritza Perez shared the news of her Lucky Star spay of a 2 lb Chihuahua, the pet of Valeria Reyes, a 12 year old battling brain cancer since 2005. This free surgery would have happened regardless, but we are so pleased that Dr. Perez chose to attribute it to her Lucky Star participation. Clearly, this little dog did not meet the “male cats only” criteria of Dr. Perez’s LS Pledge, showing that the program is very flexible & the choice of which animals to help & when is always yours! Every single free S/N is a reason for celebration & thanks! Thank you to Dr. Perez and to all our Lucky Star Veterinarians for their generosity and good work in their communities.
Gov signs tax check off for s/n
NJ’s Governor has signed the bill into law that provides for voluntary contributions on NJ State income tax returns to the Cat & Dog Spay/Neuter Fund. Taxpayers can make contributions by indicating on their state tax return that a portion of their tax refund, or an enclosed donation, is to be deposited into the Fund. The Legislature is to appropriate all funds so designated into the Animal Population Control Fund of the Dept of Health & Senior Services which funds a low-cost S/N program. In the past, money in the APCF was diverted to other purposes. Hopefully, this new law provides effective safeguards. If so, this could be a great opportunity to increase S/N funding in NJ. Getting the word out to taxpayers is key!
