The “Zip” Code Project
Pet Smart Charities has awarded Houston’s S/N Assistance Program (SNAP) almost $50,000 in each of this year & next for a TNR “Community Cat” S/N program, one zip code at a time. (“Community Cats” are tame but free roamers & ferals.) The SNAP project will start on Oct. 16, National Feral Cat Day, w/ zip code 77011, which has 1 of the largest #’s of Community Cats in that County. (ZIP 77023, already started, has drawn much local support.)

Some Grim Statistics
The S/N page on the Pet Co Foundation site states the following attributed to the AVMA: “Sterilizing your cat or dog makes them a better pet, reducing their urge to roam & decreasing the risk of contracting diseases or getting hurt as they roam. Surveys indicate that as many as 85% of dogs hit by cars are unaltered. Intact male cats living outside have been shown to live on average less than 2 years. Feline Immuno-deficiency Syndrome is spread by bites & intact cats fight a great deal more than altered cats.”

Early Oct Blessing of the Animals
Churches of various beliefs hold these annual services. Church-goer or not, if you find one, ENJOY--a pleasure to see, with or without an animal by your side!
“All things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small, all things wise and wonderful, the Lord God made them all.”
