We currently have 8 member veterinarians in private practice and 1 spay neuter clinic participating, representing 9 hospitals in 9 NJ towns.

Those who advocate for these dogs, which can be wonderful family pets, are working hard on all fronts. Spay Neuter is a key part of the solution. People for Animals 401 Hillside Ave, Hillside NJ 07205 is soliciting donations for their “Pitch in for Pits” to provide ½ price surgeries. Excerpts from more info received from AWA follow:
| Pit Bulls are the number one dog breed entering sheltering in the United States. This persistent upward trend is very sad because they remain one of the hardest breeds to find for-ever homes. A 2009 report by Animal People shared that pit-bulls make up only 5% of all dogs owned in the United States yet they comprise over 53% of all dogs surrendered to our nation’s shelters. Less than 1 out of every 10 pit bull dogs entering shelters will find a home; the rest are euthanized. We’ve seen progress over the past 30 years in total pet euthanasia rates declining: In 2007 it was estimated that 64% of all animals entering shelters were euthanized compared to 56% in 2008. This decline while positive masks that cat euthanasia and the euthanasia of pit-bull type dogs remains virtually unchanged.... AWA has operated the regions first spaying/neutering clinic for over 35 yrs. The Clinic opened in 1974 and its impact on our region is undeniable: Camden County has one of the lowest euthanasia rates in all of NJ....The AWA’s SniPit Program provides $50 spaying and neutering services to any pit bull dog through the Clinic.....The billboard we are working on is still in the planning stages but it will also promote this program in the city of Camden.” ....
