NJ’s S/N Bill (S1643) VETOED
In May NJ’s Gov. vetoed a S/N Bill which would have required all cats & dogs adopted from various facilities be sterilized. He “returned it w/ recommendations”, one is that the Dept of Health & Senior Svcs(DHSS) develop a “Pet Sterilization Pilot Program” to run for 2 yrs min. in county(ies) w/ major animal over-population issues, selected by DHSS & agreeing to participate. All facilities operating as a shelter or pound located in such county(ies) are to participate. DHSS to report on results & make a recommendation on statewide implementation by 2 yrs after pilot “becomes operative.”Bill & recommend-ations” also dealt with impoundment issues.

Pediatric S/N Tips from ASPCA PRO
Check out this comprehensive Vet authored article for professionals, on history, concerns, myths, special protocols/pointers. Though technical, I found much that the human client can grasp & many pet care tips like: minimize handling of the patient, urge staff not to play with young animals, house siblings together, & limit fasting to no more
than 3 to 4 hrs, with the rationale for each.
