Our Lucky Stars
We currently have 8 member veterinarians in private practice and 1 spay neuter clinic participating, representing 9 hospitals in 9 NJ towns.
Together these professionals have generously pledged 226 absolutely free spay neuter surgeries and other services for needy animals in 2010:

“Spay It Forward”!
This is the phrase used by Bridget Speiser, Director Spay Neuter Programs at the Washington (DC) Humane Society, to encourage donations for Spay Neuter surgeries. She urges all not to feel overwhelmed by the extent of the animal over population problem, but to begin to tackle it by focusing on “one-animal-at-a time”. She’s hoping that “Step-by-step and spay-by-spay we get closer to tipping the companion animal population imbalance back towards even.” Getting more people to grasp the importance of Spay/Neuter is an important goal nationwide. Every single spay neuter surgery saves many lives!
Not Just “For the Birds” ?
Innolytics, LLC, the company that markets a non hormonal birth control bait for geese and pigeons, has announced that it has received a $100,000 “Grand Challenges Explorations” grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, part of a 5 year, $100 million initiative to promote innovation in global health. Virtually all mammalian contraception is based on some form of hormonal action. But, Innolytics,LLC’s OvoControl® brand of nicarbazin, now registered for avian use, with unique contraceptive properties can potentially represent a new, non hormonal class of contraceptive technology in mammals. "We have demonstrated the novel use of the compound as a safe and effective contraceptive method in birds and plan to determine its effectiveness in mammals", stated their lead researcher.
“Collars For A Cause”
Houston’s Spay Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) is adding this feature to its
December fashion show & silent auction. Their goal is the collection of 229 unique dog & cat collars designed by celebrities, artists, & fashion designers. “229” represents the number of dogs & cats euthanized daily in the Houston area as a result of animal overpopulation. SNAP, a non profit 501 (c) (3), provides free & reduced cost S/N & animal wellness services, especially in the low-income areas of Texas. Since their start in 1993, they have sterilized over 330,000 cats and dogs! http://collarsforacause.org
