Help for 50,000 Street Dogs
For a trip to Bhutan, tour agencies suggest “ear plugs” to help visitors sleep through the sounds of dogs barking & howling all night in the streets. After a successful pilot, Humane Society Internat’l has announced a nation-wide humane, science-based street dog mgmt & rabies control program in the country of Bhutan. The 3 to 5 year program will start by Sept 2009 & is expected to help S/N & vaccinate close to 50,000 dogs! The Government of Bhutan will cover ½ the $1 million cost. HSI hopes to raise the rest.
Pet Smart Charities@Work for S/N
Houston’s Spay Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) will combine its reduced-cost S/N clinic with its wellness clinic in one larger space & greatly increase its ability to meet the needs of the community. This expansion is made possible by a $225,000 grant from PetSmart Charities, Inc. for build-out of the clinic & major equipment costs.
