| Our Mission: To gather, recognize and celebrate the continuing annual commitment of each of our member veterinarians to provide some level of absolutely free spay neuter services to the needy animals of their choice, along with any other free services they choose to provide. |
Our Lucky Stars
We currently have 10 member veterinarians in private practice and 1 spay neuter clinic participating, representing 9 hospitals in 9 NJ towns.
Together these professionals have generously pledged 226 absolutely free spay neuter surgeries and other services for needy animals in 2007:

When I approach veterinarians about joining Lucky Star, some are concerned about being swamped with requests for free services. Fortunately, this has not been a problem for our Lucky Stars. A pledge can actually serve as an effective limit on such requests, as your Lucky Star certificate tells your clients of this aspect of your generosity. Add to that the features of “no reporting” & “no long term commitment”. Setting the Record Straight!
There's a familiar statistic that 2 cats can produce 420,000 in 7yrs. This assumes each cat has 7 kittens, who each have 7 kittens, etc. Real world factors of high kitten mortality, limited food, shelter and territory make this oft quoted statistic unlikely, and short on credibility. The Feral Cat Spay/Neuter Project reports that scientists using a more realistic model calculated that an unspayed female cat & her offspring could be responsible for 100 to 400 new cats after 7 years, still making the point!

It is the focus of your local shelter’s tag sale, the subject of state funding programs and national public or private research, and the concern of international humanitarian and rabies prevention efforts. A humane, safe, practical, cost effective solution to feral, stray and companion animal overpopulation is the dream of many.
