TULIP’s TAKE: “FIXING” THE CONFLICT

From the LS “Spokescat”: Nationwide, animal welfare groups large & small are lining up behind apparently competing ways to stop the still vast #’s of “excess or unplaceable” animals being killed. Two of these R “No Kill”vs“Socially Conscious Animal Sheltering”. https://scvnews.com/2019/08/07/county-adopts-socially-conscious-animal-sheltering/ Big groups are on opposite sides of the debate: https://resources.bestfriends.org/article/no-kill-animal-shelters & https://www.peta.org/features/deadly-consequences-no-kill-policies/ How can 2 approaches, each w/the best of intentions & goals, with which presumably no one could disagree, be at odds? The critical element on which most would seem likely to agree is S/N, which now gets some but too little attention & inadequate resources under either option. Let’s stop the conflict & focus more resources on the 1 thing that will get all to the common goal faster: S/N! Getting all the animals “fixed” that need “fixing” is still way underfunded & under facilitated, privately or publically. This topic is now“main stream.” See 9-3-19 NY Times re issues, actions taken & results achieved so far. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/03/upshot/why-euthanasia-rates-at-animal-shelters-have-plummeted.html

A PRES. CANDIDATE’S PLAN for S/N
Julian Castro calls for $40 million in Fed $ for “Local Animal Communities Grant Program,” to help defray costs of vaccinating, S/N’g + pro-moting animal adoption. 1st time S/N has been part of National Politics? Lucky Star makes no endorsements, just celebrates attention to S/N! https://www.huffpost.com/entry/juli%C3%A1n-castro-animal-welfare-plan_n_5d5ad81ce4b0d8840ff6c227
