SPAY DAY IS FEB 26, 2013
VOTERS OK HIGHER TAXES FOR S/N
Per Alley Cat Allies, on Nov 8 in Miami-Dade County, Fla nearly 2/3rds of the county voted in favor of a slight property tax increase to fund 2 new S/N clinics & ensure that everyone has access to low-cost veterinary services. Next, the County Commissioners will vote on the measure.
Their mission is to end overpopulation of companion animals by identifying why people do not S/N their pets & designing & implementing a program to provide the needed incentives. WHAT WORKS, WHAT DOESN’T & WHY
A Community Outreach Toolkit, by HSUS’s Pets for Life program , funded by PetSmart Charities, guides organizations through developing & implementing a community outreach program tailored to under-served communities. Ch 8: “Effective S/N Outreach” deals w/ “free” vs “low cost” issue, use of incentives beyond “free”, need to build trust, need for follow up before appointments, & value of providing transportation. Gives proven approaches for each step, right down to the scripts that work when following up BEFORE surgeries, or working the line with S/N info when pet owners 1st arrive @ events offering basic/ introductory services.
