OPERATION CATNIP (OC)
Founded by Julie Levy, DVM, OC is a 501(c)(3) offering FREE S/N for unowned, free-roaming stray & feral community cats in Alachua County, Fla. OC organizes HQHV Spay Day Clinics run entirely by a team of over 75 volunteers (vets, vet students, vet techs, & others), able to S/N 150 or more cats in a matter of hrs. Cats get anesthesia, sterilization, rabies, distemper, & feline leukemia vacs, antibiotics, flea treatment & dewormer, left ear tip & pain meds. Since ‘98, OC has S/N’d more than 44,000 cats with measureable results on shelter intake & euthanasia. Costs OC about $50 for each cat treated. $ raised by donations, fundraisers, grants. CALCIUM CHLORIDE CASTRATION CO.
On 7-24-15, the company “Calcium Chloride Castration”, founded by a Canadian vet, launches the sale of pharmaceutical grade calcium chloride dihydrate for the non-surgical castration of male dogs & cats at an event in Dominican Republic. Each premeasured dose is mixed w/ readily available & inexpensive ethyl alcohol prior to injection & will be available to veterinarians worldwide. 1st published in the US in 1978, this technique is said to provide low-tech, low-cost canine & feline neutering w/potential to prevent much worldwide suffering. | “An estimated 500 to 700 million dogs exist worldwide.…3/4… live on the streets of impoverished communities. Their life expectancy is just 3 years…S/N is the gold standard for preventing litters.
