CALCIUM CHLORIDE CASTRATION CO.
On 7-24-15, the company “Calcium Chloride Castration”, founded by a Canadian vet, launches the sale of pharmaceutical grade calcium chloride dihydrate for the non-surgical castration of male dogs & cats at an event in Dominican Republic. Each premeasured dose is mixed w/ readily available & inexpensive ethyl alcohol prior to injection & will be available to veterinarians worldwide. 1st published in the US in 1978, this technique is said to provide low-tech, low-cost canine & feline neutering w/potential to prevent much worldwide suffering. “An estimated 500 to 700 million dogs exist worldwide.…3/4… live on the streets of impoverished communities. Their life expectancy is just 3 years…S/N is the gold standard for preventing litters. However, due to over-whelming #’s of animals that need surgery & aftercare for free, & the near-impossible logistics & cost of setting up & staffing clinics all over the globe, most will not have access to S/N programs. A non-surgical contraceptive…along w/ a rabies vaccine & parasite treatment could revolutionize the lives of millions of street dogs, & save human lives, for a fraction of the cost of surgical S/N…Injectable sterilents & contraceptives are already here & more are on the horizon. However, access to these products is not equal in terms of cost & availability… Few people who work in the animal welfare field in impoverished communities are even aware of the options that exist. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ruth-steinberger/science-and-compassion-are-needed_b_6859812.html |
