NJ HOARDING CASES UNPRECEDENTED
“370 or more Dogs in Howell Home”……“100 Cats in Woodbridge Condo”, etc, etc. In the “Condo” case they: “…tried to take in the cats after a cousin died, but the felines multiplied too quickly…… “I tried to get people to help me out & work with me, but I would make phone calls & not get any back; it just got out of control.” What’s the solution? I’m sure it’s complex. But, personally, I dream of a day when anyone can get prompt FREE help to trap & transport, if needed, and to get any animal fixed for FREE and that the “phone #” for such comprehensive help would be as well known to ALL as is "911". That would be a start. We are not there yet. For recent NJ “hoarding headlines” :

RAINBOW BRIDGE WELCOMES BETSY
Betsy, the tiny kitten rescued from a NJ supermarket lot on July 7, 2003, named for Betsy Ross , & the impetus behind the Lucky Star S/N Program, died in April. The “Lucky Star Spokes Cat”, a title she bore with much grace, lived her 13 yrs. in the care of her “Foster Mom” & that family’s wonderful group of rescued dogs, cats & horses. Her “Foster Mom” writes:
“We lost Betsy in April. She developed kidney disease last summer. We were able to manage it for a while with medicine & then during the fall adding fluids, but she finally lost the battle. She was a wonderful little kitty & I miss her. Thank you for letting me have the privilege of raising her. She was much loved. “
Thanks to the generous pledges of our Lucky Star veterinarians, thousands of helpless animals since have been spared outcomes likely far less fortunate than Betsy’s. Thank you Lucky Stars , Thank you “Foster Mom” & Thank you, Betsy!
