ALABAMA SPAY NEUTER’S “FIX MY ZIP”
“FIX MY ZIP” was in-spired by ASN’s 2014 S/N program “FIX 35206”. That zip code had 1of the highest Animal Control pick up rates in the county. ASN offered “35206 residents a $10 flat rate 4 each pet S/N’d & vaccinated 4 rabies. They organized a grassroots effort to spread awareness & get S/N commitments from residents. They saturated “35206” with posters, flyers, & most importantly volunteers who went door-to-door urging S/N & creating demand, even offering to transport pets to & from surgery. In 9 mos, 201 pets from “35206” were fixed.
“OUTSIDE THE BOX” LOCAL ALLIANCES
People for Animals (PFA) & NJ’s Associated Humane Societies (AHS) recently worked to bring a TNR program to Hilside, which had about 1,000+ free roaming cats, many unadoptable. AHS, which provides ACO services to Hillside, offered to substantially reduce their annual fee for animal control & donate the amount of the town’s savings to PFA’s S/N fund. Hillside approved the TNR ordinance, PFA got a grant to help with cost of S/N’g, & the town allocated cat licensing fees to help defray costs!! “PURRS” to All!
