HOW BRICK TOWNSHIP NJ DOES TNR!
https://www.jerseyshoreonline.com/brick/trap-neuter-return-program-humanely-reduces-feral-cat-population/ For a look at all that makes this program work see article @ link above & a video of the Mayor interviewing the TNR Chair here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BO7qJeW_vNo It’s about wanting to do it & to do it right, working w/ help from experienced organizations & individuals who know what works & what doesn’t, dedicated colony caretakers, essential veterinary S/N and other help, community support & group & individual donations of food & funds. Leadership is critical & they’ve got that covered! It says a lot when the Mayor is the one interviewing the TNR Chair in the video above! From the article:“There is humane support in the township for anyone who is feeding stray or abandoned cats: the Trap-Neuter-Release (TNR) Program exists to help feral cat colony caretakers S/N & vaccinate the animals, which ultimately helps to halt the number of kittens born in the wild... Brick has an estimated 80 cat colonies w/some 453 cats, w/ ea. colony ranging from 3-10 cats. …colony caretakers sign an agreement … that they will care for & feed the animals & keep them sheltered & warm in the winter, said committee chair John Talty, who served as a Brick police officer for 30 yrs before retiring in 2017. The TNR Committee meets every 4 to 6 wks, w/ some 20 residents attending the most recent meeting…. During the meeting, …they were able to distribute some 1,000 lbs. of cat food that had been donated from veterinarians of soon-to-expire cat food, donations from shoppers @ Petco, where there is a drop-off bin … & from private donations….The TNR program started yrs ago w/ some seed $ from the township, …. Now the committee gets its funding from a 50/50 raffle …concerts …fundraising & from private donations.” https://www.bricktownship.net/boards-commissions/trap-neuter-release-tnr-committee/
