“PET FOOD” WITH A “SIDE OF S/N”!
In Jan., The Monmouth Co. SPCA opened their NEW Pet Pantry(“PP”)building, to house a program started during Superstorm Sandy. Thanks to generous donations & great community support, the PP started providing low-cost/ free pet food/supplies, resulting in fewer surrenders. PP currently services over 1,100 families. The new building will let them serve more. Donations of food & supplies accepted. $ raised goes to stocking the shelves & towards S/N surgeries for pets receiving support through the pantry. To qualify for the PP, you must have proof of S/N (or be willing to S/N), proof of income, & valid photo ID. PP is open Mon.Tues. Thurs. Friday 9am-4pm, & Wed. 9am-1:45pm.

From Dr. Philip Bushby, DVM,MS,DACVS: Use an adhesive roller to pick up any fine hairs missed by a vacuum after shaving S/N site. Hairs can interfere with sterility & complicate closure. DELAWARE EXPANDS S/N BENEFICIARIES
http://dhss.delaware.gov/dhss/pressreleases/2016/freespayday-022516.html. It’s not unusual for a State to have a “S/N program”! These typically provide low cost surgeries for pets of those on public assistance. So, when I read that for World Spay Day, 150+ large-breed dogs & free-roaming cats (2 groups w/high rates of homelessness) rec’d FREE S/N’s compliments of Delaware’s Office of Animal Welfare, I was not surprised, until I realized the animals helped did not qualify for their S/N program! So where did the $ come from to help these other needy animals? Ans: from the sale of Animal Welfare License Plates. Their S/N program is income qualified & funded by a $3 surcharge on every rabies vaccination dispensed in the State. Their Animal Welfare Plate has a 1-time cost of $50 & $35 goes to services for Delaware’s animals. NJ’s S/N Fund, limited & always short, is funded by license surcharges, specialty plates & tax check offs.
